Marie Hopper and Robert Cummings founded this general practice law firm to serve the Chatham County community they hold dear. With 20-plus years’ experience appearing in North Carolina courts in more than a dozen counties, the team at Hopper Cummings is well versed on a range of civil matters. We help people solve day-to-day problems involving family, traffic, and business law, as well as estate planning and administration.

Hopper Cummings is located in downtown Pittsboro at the historic Terry-Taylor House, two blocks from the Chatham County Justice Center.

Marie Hopper

Marie Hopper

A Chatham County native, Marie has long served her community. Her tenure with Legal Aid of North Carolina put her in front of hardworking farmworkers and many residents of the six counties surrounding Pittsboro. As staff attorney in Legal Aid’s Pittsboro office, Marie specialized in domestic violence/family law cases, consumer protection, and bankruptcy. Marie’s peers honored her with a “Save the House” award in 2008 for her extensive work preserving clients’ homeownership interests.

By founding Hopper Cummings, Marie deepened her commitment to her hometown. She helps its residents in traffic law, business formation, estate planning, and family law, including serving as a Parenting Coordinator and Guardian ad Litem.

Robert Cummings

Robert Cummings

Robert has dedicated his career to the people of Chatham and surrounding counties. He works closely with his clients--your friends and neighbors--to advise, counsel, and represent them in criminal cases, traffic tickets, family disputes, estate planning, and general civil litigation in Chatham County. Robert’s focus on getting to know his clients and their individual circumstances give him a unique appreciation of each person he encounters. This ability to connect with people from all walks of life make Robert a genuine advocate and ally Chatham residents rely on for everyday challenges.

Before starting Hopper Cummings, Robert was a staff attorney with Legal Aid of North Carolina in Pittsboro. He maintained a broad practice across a six-county area, with emphasis on family law, consumer protection, and housing rights. With Hopper Cummings, Robert focused his work in Chatham County, achieving a long-term goal of devoting himself to one county and its residents.
