

Meet Marie Hopper

A lifelong Chatham County resident, Marie Hopper brings both deep roots and decades of experience to her work with families across the region. She earned her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004 and holds a degree in History from Earlham College. Marie is a Certified Family Financial Mediator through the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission and remains active in the legal community as a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the 18th Judicial District Bar, the Chatham County Bar Association, and the Family Law and Estate Planning & Fiduciary Law sections of the North Carolina Bar Association. She served as Vice-President and then President of the 18th Judicial District Bar from 2018 to 2020 and is admitted to practice before all North Carolina state courts as well as the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. Marie holds an AV Preeminent Peer Rating from Martindale-Hubbell, reflecting the highest level of professional excellence.
Marie focuses her practice on estate planning and administration. From the start of her career as a Legal Aid attorney serving vulnerable residents of Chatham County, she has been committed to helping her neighbors navigate life’s most personal challenges with clarity and care. She has also contributed her time to organizations that reflect her values, serving on the boards of The Center for Cooperative Parenting, Carolina Tiger Rescue, George Moses Horton Middle School PTSA, and as a Trustee for Chapel Hill Friends Meeting. In 2022, the Chatham County Chamber of Commerce honored Marie with the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award for her outstanding community service.
